At their regularly scheduled meeting, the Beaver Island Community School Board received reports from the teachers regarding student assessment data, heard reports from the standing committees, and took action on several items, including the appointment of a new board member. The first order of business was to approve the appointment of Angel Lefevre-Welke to the board of education. Angel has myriad experiences that will allow her to be an effective board member. Teachers Debbie Robert and Dianna Behl presented information from state and national assessments regarding the progress and achievement of BICS students. Overall, BICS students outperform the students in Michigan. On the financial management front, the board voted unanimously to join the Michigan Liquid Assets Fund (MILAF) in order to increase the rate on return for dollars in their Capital Improvements Fund. The board also approved the school’s participation in the Beaver Island Broadband Consortium. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Monday, December 9, 2019 at 7:00 pm.
