Many Islanders are concerned about an upcoming meeting of the Charlevoix County Board. That’s because the board has the Light House as the only item for discussion at the meeting and people are concerned what’s in store. Our Commissioner Scott Hankins says only a discussion is on tap—and that he is pushing for that so the Board can come up with a plan for moving forward. The only document circulated for the meeting simply recites that fixing everything would cost more than one million dollars. Hankins says it appears that the building will take a major investment to be useful and that while he doesn’t want to see it deteriorate, he is hesitant to spend tax dollars until there is a goal for it. A copy of the document distributed to Commissioners is available at The meeting is at 9:30 tomorrow morning (November 10, 2021) over in Charlevoix at the Shirley Rolhoff center. https://wvbi.biccenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/November-10-2021-COW.pdf.

Beaver Island Historical Society Director Lori Taylor-Blitz says Networks Northwest, the board’s partner for the project, has been in touch with her about developing a capital plan and that the society provided input, but she has not yet seen a specific plan and does not know if one will be presented at the meeting. The meeting is at 9:30 tomorrow morning over in Charlevoix at the Shirley Rolhoff center.
