After the tragic loss of her son, Vince, Bonnie Cull Rice envisioned a quiet reflective spot which could be enjoyed by the public. The cantilevered observation deck extending over Angeline’s Bluff is nearing completion and was created as a memorial in honor of her son. The project was built and paid for by the Cull family and friends requiring much governmental approval. The access for the new observation platform is off Mrs. Redding’s Trail Road from the West Side Road.
According to Beth Leuck, an organizer with Beaver Island Birding Trail events, “This new observation platform is a real treat for birders. They will be able to look for birds without developing warbler neck because the tree tops are level with the platform. It will be a wonderful location for observing spring migration!”
The observation deck is indeed a special gift to Beaver Island designed with love from the Cull family.
