The second round of COVID-19 vaccines is set to come to the island on the 19th. There is a fully booked schedule of 150 appointments for that date, including 25 for teachers at BICS. Health Center Director Tammy Radionoff says there is another clinic planned for the end of the month. She also let us know that the procedure for Island Residents signing up for a shot has changed:
Call: Health Department of Northwest Michigan at: 1-800-432-4121 (Monday through Friday 9 to 5) and follow the prompts:
- Press 6 (even though the recording says 7 for COVID)
- Press 2 (Register)
- Press 1 (even if you are not in Priority Group 1A)
Please let the Health Department registration desk know that you are from Beaver Island and were instructed to get on the list for the COVID-19 shots. Health Department of Northwest Michigan personnel will then schedule you for the vaccine, whether it is the next planned visit on January 19 or the next date after that, which is yet to be determined.
The Health Department representative will ask you for your name, address, date of birth, and the name of your insurance company. For those 65+ please be prepared to provide your Medicare (not social security) Number . Once you are registered the Health Department rep will give you a date and time for both your first and second vaccination shots.
Your COVID-19 shots will be administered at the Beaver Island Rural Health Center. If you have questions, please call the Health Center.
