OFFICIAL KICK OFF FOR THE BEAVER ISLAND MASTER PLAN REVIEW AND UPDATE
Planning Commissions for the Townships of Peaine and St. James have begun their five year revision of the 2017 Beaver Island Master Plan as recommended by Michigan Township Association in order to revisit goals and objectives looking into the future. The first joint meeting was held on April 18, 2022 where we met with LIAA (Land Information Access Association) team via Zoom, and were presented with an informative PowerPoint presentation. This document assists in meeting the needs for state and federal grantors who can provide monetary resources to enhance the economic and recreational needs of Beaver Island. The master plan serves as the legal document which guides our zoning ordinances. This will be an opportunity for community stakeholders to bring their ideas or suggestions to the planning commissions for inclusion into the updated plan.The Peaine and St. James Planning Commissions have designated webpages where current and upcoming information can be found.

There will be scheduled community meetings and focus groups throughout the next six months. This will be followed by a 66-day comment period, culminating with approval and adoption by both township boards.We are developing an email contact list of anyone interested in being informed of upcoming events.
