BIA’s Blight Remediation Program is working hard to keep our island clean and environmentally healthy! Proper disposal of abandoned or disabled vehicles—helps protect our land, water, and wildlife. BIA board member Craig Peirano has spearheaded the project and rallied support from others, including from Vic Van Deventer, to get junks hauled into town and barged off the Island. Peirano says that while lots of progress has been made, there is still plenty to do. One problem he has encountered is folks taking parts from vehicles brought to the dock for removal. In case, an entire vehicle was removed. Another problem is people stashing tires and other junk in cars on the dock. None of that is OK, says Peirano. He’s taken to adding a warning sticker inside vehicles on the way off island to let people know about that.

If you need to remove an old car, reach out to the BIA at president@beaverisland association.org or send a private message on the BIA Facebook page. Through the program, the BIA can assist with vehicle removals off the island at no cost – titled or no title.

We are very proud of the work Craig and others participating in what has become dubbed the “Craig and Vince,” says Greg Larson, the BIA’s president. “Let’s work together to preserve Beaver Island’s beauty and keep our environment thriving.”
