Smoke from wildfires in Canada continues to plauge the Island and much of Michigan. The Air quality index on the island passed 240 overnight (early Thursday morning). Although it has dropped to 190 as of this morning, the AQI number is in the highest zone of the index (which is coded as purple on the AQI maps). Readings across the region are in the red zone or above.

These readings come from a newly installed air quality sensor at WVBI’s transmitter site. It uses two sensors to accurately monitor the current outdoor air quality and provides continuously update information on a website that shows a global network of similar equipment.

The senor was donated to WVBI. Links to current readings are under the weather menu on the WVBI website at wvbi.net.
